Breaking News Bonhams’ Seiko-Only Auction Disappears In The Wake Of Collector Scrutiny

Yesterday, I composed a piece featuring the declaration of an upcoming Seiko-themed sell off at Bonhams . It was initially scheduled to begin on August 17, yet it currently seems to have been pulled from Bonhams’ site totally. This comes after extensive reaction from the Seiko community because of a few tricky watches with wrong and secondary selling parts, what began very quickly after the full postings were distributed to Bonhams site yesterday.

While the possibility of a Seiko-just closeout is energizing (I said so in the first post, however honestly my mouth tastes a ton like crow right now), barely any online communities are more dialed-in than that of Seiko gatherers. Inside minutes, from Instagram to the comments on my unique post and in the end this point by point piece from Michael at Fratello , individuals were finding quite difficult issues with the watches, including terrible bezels, inaccurate dials, purported “Frankenwatch” reconstructs, and in any event, missing lots.

Those of us in North America arose earlier today to locate the whole index pulled from Bonhams’ site with no declaration or informing from the sale house itself. We have since contacted Bonhams’ watch offices in New York, London, and Hong Kong for comment and explanation, through both email and phone, and they have not yet reacted to any of our solicitations. We will keep on observing the circumstance and we will refresh this story with any authority word from Bonhams once we have it.

While there is a lot of proof that there were a few tricky watches, I think that its disturbing that Bonhams pulled the whole deal from their site without comment. In spite of the fact that distorted watches are not actually uncommon at sell off (or in the more prominent universe of vintage Seiko), the quick aftermath encompassing the “Causing a ripple effect” deal, and the choice to pull the whole posting, is perplexing and without a doubt a hit to Bonhams and the Seiko community.

To be clear, we don’t yet know whether the Seiko-just closeout has been dropped totally or whether an elective arrangement is being actualized. We’ll need to stand by to get with Bonhams to know without a doubt and we will keep on refreshing you as the story develops.
